What is this course really about?Digital Learning Environments are taking residence in the educational experience of many, from replacing components of traditional classroom instruction to providing open platforms for lifelong learning. In this class we will study the various forms and functions of a sampling of digital learning environments ranging from subject specific Intelligent Tutoring Systems in K-12 to domain neutral systems for post-secondary online learning. Guest lecturers from a variety of platforms that differ in grade level, curricular integration, and domain specificity, will present the principles behind their system and the work they are undertaking in the education technology space

Some Of Our Past Guest Lecturers
In this course, students have the opportunity to engage directly with the founders and representatives of diverse digital education platforms, with the intent of these guest lectures to present the principles behind their system and the work they are undertaking in the education technology space.
Why learning about digital education is importantStarting with the first developments of intelligent tutoring systems in the 1970s, education technology has come a long way. Digital learning environments have transformed the modern educational landscape and expanded our understanding of learning, while providing new exciting opportunities for research. From small classroom settings to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) which attract millions of users every year, these environments implicitly reflect the multiple perspectives on serving learners. Digital education is a evolving industry, influencing the face of education today.¹

About Us
Zachary Pardos is an Assistant Professor at UC Berkeley in a joint position between the Graduate School of Education and School of Information. His focal areas of study are educational data mining and learning analytics concentrating on measurement of learning phenomena in digital environments.
